So we are a week in to the cape house renovation. Some demo has been done and work in the kitchen. I am still going through each room and deciding on bedding, lighting, decor, etc. The girls’ room has been on my mind since we looked at the house. Just a little background on my girls. They have strong opinions about how their rooms at home are decorated. After I agree to these strong opinions, they wait about 2-3 months and then tell me they don’t like their room and really never liked the bedding or rug they chose. The design lover in me says great lets change it! But the parent in me says tough luck – you chose it. So with that history, I have decided the design of this room will be completely and totally my choice – a dictatorship if you will. They might as well call this room Cuba because I am deciding everything. Also, this will serve as a guest room so it has to be functional. Here a couple of white paneled rooms for inspiration.
I was looking at the Roberta Roller Rabbit site and I saw these voile quilts. I love the preppy bohemian style.
Both of the quilts flip over to a different pattern on the other side so with bunk beds they will have lots of versatility. I have decided on white sheets for all the bunks to keep it easy.
I am using these bunk beds above from IKEA in both of the rooms (boy room post here). We are going to paint them white. I went and checked out these bunk beds at the IKEA store (post here) because I was a little worried about the quality. They were great and I love the price!
The dresser is also from IKEA and works perfectly for the room. I am looking at one of these side tables from Serena and Lily. They are very different but both have that laid back style I was going for in this room. I also might do a little hunting around at antique and consignment stores for a little side table. I am in no rush for this piece.
Some of the decorative elements I am thinking about are below:
The girls love this egg chair from PBteen. I like this little elephant from here for their room.
I am without a doubt holding off on a rug until we are all moved in but I do like these stripes or maybe just a simple sisal that I can shake out. This is yet to be determined.
There is no ceiling light in this room, so it will have to be two lamps. I love shopping for lamps. So this will be difficult for me to narrow it down.
What I would love to do someday down the road is put sconces on the wall above the two bunk beds. This would require new electrical which is not going to happen at this point but never say never.
